Abstract

Abstract:

In two stone inscriptions from Cologne/CCAA (CIL XIII 8390 and 8849) dating to the Roman period, one should read the ornamental letters as O(pto) s(it) t(ibi) t(erra) l(evis), instead of O(ssa) h(ic) s(ita) or similar. Especially in Pannonia, this group of letters is found in the form of a monogram shaped like a medaillon.
